Magnus reaches for No. 1

Carlsen plays black against Onischuk today. Its a good chance as any to reach Anand's No. 1 perch. If he misses it today, he'll still have chances later in this tournament, but of course not if he tires like he did in his previous tournament.

Live chess rating lists show that he needs just about a point and a half to reach Anand. Curiously, Carlsen loses points even if he draws with a strong grandmaster as Onischuk. Thats the price you pay for rising like a meteor. So let the battle for the world no. 1 position begin, today !

M Jagadish Grischuk is now firmly in the top ten of the World's elite Chess players. Well, at least on the live chess rankings list. Having started his comeback at the FIDE Grand Prix at Elista a couple of years back and following it up with the famous win at Linares, Grischuk is now set to scale unknown (to him) heights of 2750+ (2758 to be exact at the present moment) Showing promise even as a teenager, Grischuk rose to the top very early in his career.
