Anand is the Chess World Champion 2012

Image
Vishy Anand is the World Champion, again! He beat challenger Boris Gelfand in tie-breakers. The final score was 8.5-7.5. The tie break games were filled with excitement unlike the games with regular time controls. Anand won game 2 of the tie breaks and held on with draws in Games 3 and 4 to win. Earlier, he faced some anxious moments in the 3rd game, where he made a couple of dubious moves. However, Gelfand was unable to capitalize due to severe time pressure and drew a winning game. Gelfand holds Anand again, holding on dangerously

Image
Anand - Gelfand  Photo from thechessdrum.net Challenger Boris Gelfand drew with the black pieces against Anand again in the 10th game of the World Championship match. With only two more normal time games to go, Gelfand is now definitely considered to have equal chances in the match. Only if the match goes into a tie-break, most consider Anand to be the favorite since he plays more quickly. http://www.chess.co.uk/twic/chessnews/events/world-chess-championship-2012/world-chess-championship-anand-gelfand-game-10 The most stunning fact of Game 10 was that Gelfand was able to face an off-beat variation in the Sicilian Defence without even batting an eyelid. His preparation seems to be of the highest order since Anand has not been able to threaten him except in Game 8.

The draws keep coming in the World Chess Championships 2012

Gelfand and Anand drew their sixth consecutive game in the World Chess Championships 2012. The match is starting to evoke criticism, but there are some defenders who are quoting the reason of shortness of the match and that hence caution is justified. Kasparov has even gone so far as to say that Anand has lost his motivation, which led to huge protests by the Indian media. Kasparov thought that Anand missed a chance to win in the third game, when he had to look at the game from a different angle and push through. After all, the playing strength is not very obvious with this level of preparation and Anand should grab the minutest advantage. Meanwhile, Boris is holding on well and even pushing Anand to the defensive quite a few times. Anand will need to defend another game with black when they resume after the rest day. The mercurial Vassily Ivanchuk won the Capablanca Chess Tournament of 2012 with 6.5/10. Dominguez and Nepomniatchi finished tied at 5.5 points a piece. Vladimir Potkin, Quesada Perez Yuniesky, and Viktor Laznicka finished 4-6 in an all play all tournament.

Anand holds comfortably with the Semi-slav, again

Defending World Champion of Chess, Viswanathan Anand, held Challenger Boris Gelfand to a draw in the 4th game of the 12 game match being held at Moscow. Anand deployed the Semi-slav against 1.d4 and drew quite easily. Gelfand changed the move sequence on move 10, but Anand was well prepared and played fairly quickly. Replay and watch the game here!

Gelfand is lucky to hold the 3rd Game of World Chess Championship 2012

Image
V Anand came very close to winning the 3rd game of their World Champinship match, but played a safe move on the 35th, under some time trouble. Anand tried to steer Gelfand away from the Gruenfeld by playing an anti-Gruenfeld 3. f3 It appears that Gelfand is very well prepared for this match and is determined to hang on and trouble Anand. The match is being held at Moscow, probably the World's Capital City of Chess. Anand is the defending Champion.

Anand, Gelfand draw the first two games

The reigning World Champion, V Anand and Boris Gelfand drew the first two games in the Chess World Championships of 2012 in Moscow. Gelfand did well to easily hold with black pieces in the first game, Anand returned the favor, doing the same in a Semi Slav in the second game.
