How do I get a FIDE rating
The following are general guidelines. Please remember that you need to first train and reach a good level of playing strength before you get a rating. A player who is rated 1000 on the FIDE scale is quite strong in India compared to a person in the general population who plays Chess for recreation.
The following need to be met:
- The player must play at least 9 rated games against opponents in FIDE-rated tournaments. The games can be spread over one or more than one tournaments.
- The games must be played against five different opponents
- These nine games can be spread over 26 months.
- The player must achieve a rating performance over 1000 (this is going to change in a few weeks to 1400). We'll write a separate article about this soon.
- After the tournaments, the organizers submit the results to FIDE, who will then process it each time, and once all the requirement are met, they'll publish the initial rating for the player.
