Live Chess Ratings commentary on Women Live Rating

Image
Judit Polgar has lost 9 points after her average showing at the London Chess Classic. She did gain some points towards the end to at least show a semblance of a fight with the top players, but she is obviously not in  top form yet. Hou Yifan is holding on to her 2600+, but the other top seed in the World Championship, Koneru Humpy of India lost quite heavily. She is now below 2600. So we now have only two 2600+ players. The other significant ratings losers are Gunina and N Kosintseva. Among the gainers, obviously Stefanova is the biggest gainer, climbing back to 2515. The World Champion Ushenina is not in the 2500 club, and so is out of the top 16 for now. We do not rule out the possibility of her joining this elite club if she continues to stay in her current form. Obviously, it will be hard with all the celebrations in her home country, Ukraine.

Commentary on the Live Chess Ratings

Image
Magnus Carlsen finally finished the London Chess Classic with a Live Rating of 2861.4 So, he will indeed break the record of Kasparov's all time highest rating. Some readers of other Chess sites were complaining that it was too early to predict Carlsen breaking the record before the London Chess Classic ended. Their objections were valid since Carlsen stands to lose heavy points against players such as Gawain Jones or Judit Polgar. He didn't and he deserves all the praise as the all-time record holder. Congratulations to Kramnik, who has reached his highest rating, the same level as 2002 (2809). Statistics show that the rating in 2002 is superior due to ratings inflation. Nakamura was a significant mover and he is now back in the top 10, nudging recent upmover Mamedyarov to the 10th spot. With Kamsky sliding down disastrously, Hikaru Nakamura is the clear US No. 1 in Chess. Michael Adams used the opportunity that he was provided in the London Classic and has gained go...

Polgar out of 2700 list, Berkes is now in

Image
Judit Polgar won against Luke Mc Shane at the London Chess Classic event, but it was not enough to get her back into the 2700 ELO Chess Elite list. However, Ferenc Berkes made up for Judit's exclusion by jumping into the list that now comprises 48 players. Berkes is now rated 2706 on the Live Chess Ratings list.

Commentary on Live Chess Rating

Image
As of today, Magnus Carlsen (2862) is well clear of Garry Kasparov's all time highest rating. The only danger for him is losing two games against weak players, which is a remote possibility with his current form. Nakamura did draw with him on 10th December, which means that Carlsen will collect a slight minus, but nothing significant. The most interesting move on the list is by Kramnik. He is now clear of Aronian (who's lost quite a bit here) by almost 6 ELO points. World Champion Anand is now at No. 7. Mamedyarov has cemented his ranking in the top 10 at least for now.
