Magnus Carlsen won the Esports World Cup in Paris without losing a game, defeating 19-year-old breakout star Denis Lazavik in the final.  Meanwhile, Wesley So maintains a narrow lead at the Sinquefield Cup in Saint Louis, and teenager Alice Lee scored a major upset win over Koneru Humpy at the Cairns Cup. Magnus Carlsen dominated the finals, beating Denis Lazavik 3-1 in both sets to claim the $250,000 top prize. Hikaru Nakamura took third place after Alireza Firouzja forfeited their final playoff match. Sinquefield Cup (Round 5): Wesley So leads the field, though Fabiano Caruana bounced back by defeating Levon Aronian, and Vincent Keymer beat Anish Giri to pull within half a point of the lead. Cairns Cup (Round 6): Alice Lee pulled off a surprising and brilliant win against veteran Grandmaster Koneru Humpy, while Tan Zhongyi kept the sole lead with 4.5 point

  As the dust settles down after another wonderful tournament (stressful for the players), it is now time to take a peek at what happened to their ratings. Gukesh gains 20 points in the April 2024 ratings list and is now world no. 6 ahead of world champion Ding Liren, whom he will face in the World Championships finals in November-December. Pragg stays where he is in terms of points and Vidit loses 6 points. In the Women's section, Indian legend Koneru Humpy managed to stem the losses and sits at 2545. Vaishali's miraculous performance in the last five round helped her to climb back to 2489.

The 2012 edition of the SportAccord Mind Games in Beijing threw up a big, surprising winner - Laurent Fressinet. He finished ahead of several ultra strong Grandmasters with a plus 4 score and a 2975 performance. Hikaru Nakamura and Alexander Grischuk finished 2nd and 3rd. In the Women's section, the top three strongest women duly finished in the top three places. Koneru Humpy is already a strong Grand Master of chess in the open section (including men). Her rating has soared to 2606. She is set to rise even higher in the January 2008 ratings list to be announced shortly.
