The young but strong Maxim Rodshtein of Israel beat a very strong Gabriel Sargissian in the second round of the Ciudad de Pamplona tournament. Local hero Francisco Vallejo also won over Jobava Baadur. Vallejo Pons forced Baadur to resign after 69 moves when the Georgian was a clear piece down in a slightly complicated end game where Baadur made several seriuos mistakes to lose a knight for almost nothing. The Rodshtein vs Sargissian game was a roller coaster. Rodshtein capitalized on a faulty simplification effort by Sargissian and later won an exchange. But he could not capitalize on it.
