Kasparov blunders again in the Rapid game against Navara
Kasparov has shown his normal strength in the middle game, but is not able to finish off the games at the Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz Chess tournament. In the game against Navara, he made a one move blunder. With this, Kasparov slides down further in the standings. Earlier in the tournament, Kasparov missed chances to win against Vishy Anand, Aronian, and tournament leader Nepomniachtchi. It is always a pleasure to see all time greats like Kasparov playing. Results should not matter at his current age. With this performance, one hopes that Kasparov considers the whole event as a warm up and plays more tournaments! We all know what he can do.
Chess Ratings rant
Harika is back deep into the top 10 in the live ratings again with a creditable win over the very strong Mamedov from Azerbaijan in the Abu Dhabi Chess tournament. Nepomniachtchi moves up to No. 4 on the Rapid ratings. Kasparov loses 13 pts so far and it will take a while to see what his true strength today is (of course it will not harm his all time great status). Le Quang Liem is proving that he was a good choice for the Rapid and Blitz. He is plus 14 ELO in the event.
