Carlsen clinches title at Medias

Magnus Carlsen took back the number one ranking the world by winning the double round robin tournament at Medias, Romania. Carlsen won even though Karjakin tied with him on 6.5 points after 10 rounds.

The results of this tournament have profound implications. Carlsen passes Anand and Karjakin passes Kramnik to be fourth on the live chess ratings list.

Nisipeanu could not take advantage of home conditions and finished at the bottom with Ivanchuk with 4 points. Ivanchuk beat Nakamura in the last round to salvage some pride.

Roustam Kamsky resurfaces

Roustam (Rustam?) Kamsky, the father of the World Cup Champion 2007, Gata Kamsky has reappeared on the chess scene. In a letter appealing for "moral and financial support" from the US federation and the mayor of New York, Bloomberg, Kamsky has written a long letter justifying the actions that the Kamskys took right from the days of the Soviet Union to his defection, quitting chess and playing again.
